Border Police Cpl. Hadar Cohen Z"L murdered in Damascus Gate terror attack

19 years old from Or Yehuda

Feb 3, 2016 - Border Police Cpl. Hadar Cohen, 19, of Or Yehuda was mortally wounded when three terrorists attacked Border Policemen at Damascus Gate in Jerusalem after they were asked for identification.

Hadar Cohen, the second of three children, completed high school in Or Yehuda and was determined to contribute significantly during her compulsory military service. She was recruited into the Border Police only two months ago, and sworn in less than a week ago. Still undergoing training, she had been posted to the Old City just last week, her first operational deployment.

"She really was a girl that everyone loved. She was a good and gorgeous girl, she achieved everything she wanted," said her aunt, Zehavit Cohen. She very much wanted to join the Border Police and dreamed of becoming a commander.

Hadar was part of a three-member squad patrolling the area outside Damascus Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem. They identified two suspects and asked them for identification, at which point one drew out a knife and began stabbing the one of the policewomen. Acting heroically, Hadar managed to shoot the assailant, saving the life of her friend. A third terrorist, previously unnoticed, opened fire with an automatic weapon, critically wounding Hadar. She was rushed to Hadassah Medical Center, where she later died of her wounds.

Hadar Cohen was buried at the Yehud Military Cemetery. She is survived by her parents, Ofer and Sigalit, a brother and a sister.
